IC 2177<\/b>\u00a0is a region of nebulosity that lies along the border between the\u00a0constellations<\/a>\u00a0Monoceros<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Canis Major<\/a>. It is a roughly circular\u00a0H II region<\/a>\u00a0centered on the\u00a0Be star<\/a>\u00a0HD 53367<\/a>.[5]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0This nebula was discovered by Welsh amateur astronomer\u00a0Isaac Roberts<\/a>\u00a0and was described by him as “pretty bright, extremely large, irregularly round, very diffuse.”[6]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

The name\u00a0Seagull Nebula<\/b>\u00a0is sometimes applied by amateur astronomers to this emission region, although it more properly includes the neighboring regions of star clusters, dust clouds and reflection nebulae. This latter region includes the open clusters\u00a0NGC 2335<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0NGC 2343<\/a>.[7]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

NGC 2327 is located in IC 2177. It is also known as the Seagull’s Head, due to its larger presence in the Seagull nebula.[8]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n
