IC 405<\/b>\u00a0(also known as the\u00a0Flaming Star Nebula<\/b>,\u00a0SH 2-229<\/b>, or\u00a0Caldwell 31<\/b>) is an\u00a0emission<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0reflection nebula<\/a>[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0in the constellation\u00a0Auriga<\/a>, surrounding the bluish star\u00a0AE Aurigae<\/a>. It shines at magnitude +6.0. Its celestial coordinates are RA 05h<\/sup>\u00a016.2m<\/sup>\u00a0dec +34\u00b0\u00a028\u2032.[2]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0It surrounds the irregular variable star\u00a0AE Aurigae<\/a>\u00a0and is located near the emission nebula\u00a0IC 410<\/a>, the open clusters\u00a0M38<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0M36<\/a>, and the K-class star\u00a0Iota Aurigae<\/a>. The nebula measures approximately 37.0′ x 19.0′, and lies about 1,500\u00a0light-years<\/a>\u00a0away from\u00a0Earth<\/a>.[2]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0It is believed that the proper motion of the central star can be traced back to the\u00a0Orion’s Belt<\/a>\u00a0area.[2]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The nebula is about 5\u00a0light-years<\/a>\u00a0across.[1]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n
